In this Seminar we will first briefly describe and survey the historical roots of the practice of spiritual direction within the Christian tradition. Then we will explore the variety of possible forms of giving and receiving spiritual direction, with reference to Christian literature from different periods of Church history and representative of different Christian traditions (Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic mainly). Finally, there will be suggestions and recommendations for those who are seeking spiritual direction for themselves.
